Rules for working in Latvia

6 items

Choose an agency with a valid licence

A large advance payment, a “guaranteed visa” or placement through an unlicensed private agency is a high-risk signal.

how hiring works

The employer registers the vacancy on the State Employment Agency (NVA) portal and justifies the number of positions; on the 10th working day the NVA issues an opinion on whether a foreigner may be hired. Since 1 January 2025, without that opinion the PMLP issues neither an invitation visa nor a residence permit.
